ID: G3 Title: Tholos (Dome) of MARMARIA, Delphi, Greece.
Period of construction: 600 b.c.
Structural type: Block structure
Chronology of intervention:
-1892: Excavations by French archaeologists;
-1920, 1938: Partial reconstruction.
Description of the interventions:
-1892:
French archaeological excavations.
-1920:
Charbonneau and Gottlob built in the museum a partial reconstruction of a circular sector of the Tholos. In occasion of the new arrangement of the museum, such reconstruction was removed.
-1938:
New partial anastilosi of three columns and the girder, with interpolations in red limestone of Corynth instead of the original penteli.
Such “reconstruction” allowed, moreover, to demonstrate that the height of the columns did not correspond to that one supposed in the first reconstruction in 1920.
